As part of the month of November, a special action project to plant 2,000 Palmyra seeds was carried out on Sunday, 23 November 2025 at 9:00 a.m. in the village of Valaippadu, under the initiative of the Centre for Peace and Reconciliation- Northern Province OMI JAFFNA- CPR (JPIC)
Guided by the Director of the unit, Rev. Fr. S. J. Jeevaratnam OMI, the event became a space that highlighted the way of life and cultural heritage of Tamils, who have long lived in harmony with the nature. The activity was organized with the support of the Parish Priest of Valaippadu, and the members of the St. Ann’s Youth Association.
Palmyra trees, which stand tall as a unique symbol of the Northern Province, hold a significant place in the lives of Tamils. This project was undertaken to remind people of that importance, to protect this valuable natural resource, to pass it on as an investment to the future generations, and to emphasize the importance of the month of November in the life and the hearts of all the Tamils.
A motivational and awareness session for the youth was also conducted under the theme of “Nature is Our Common Home.” Palmyra seeds were planted in the open fields and roadsides of Valaippadu village. Nearly 40 young men and women, lovers of nature, and CPR staff members actively participated in this initiative. Thus the Oblates of Mary Immaculate works to form the nature friendly society and make them to live the values of Laudato si’
